This puppet theater reimagines the Yuan dynasty artist Guan Daosheng’s embroidered Guanyin as a mirror for a modern girl’s awakening. The performance intertwines live shadow play, projection, and object theater to explore how gender, vision, and faith are stitched together through the body. Between the threads of hair and the flicker of light, “Annie” and “Guan” dissolve into one another—a reflection on how the act of seeing can itself become liberation.
